The Ras Ersal area in the far east of Socotra is considered the world’s best choice for this type of trip. Where the Arabian Sea meets the Indian Ocean, it creates an environment rich in ocean currents that attract giant predatory fish such as the Giant Trevally (GT), kingfish, and tuna.

Here is a comprehensive one-week program, specifically designed to focus entirely on the Ras Ersal area, with two fishing sessions daily (morning and evening) to ensure you take advantage of peak fishing activity times.

🎣 Intensive Fishing Program in Ras Ersal (7 Days/7 Nights)

⛺ Accommodation and Logistics:

• Accommodation: You will be staying at the Arhar Beach Camp (located just minutes from the Ersal boat marina), a charming location combining high sand dunes and fresh, clean springs perfect for bathing after fishing.
• Land Transportation: 4×4 vehicles will be used for transportation between the camp and marina, as well as for transporting equipment. * Sea Navigation: Traditional Socotra fishing boats (fiberglass) with local captains who possess generations of experience in navigating the currents and rocky seabed.

📅 Daily Itinerary

1. Day 1: Arrival, Camping, and Exploration

Settling in and Preparation

Morning: Arrival at Socotra Airport and direct transfer by 4×4 vehicle eastward to Arhar Camp (approximately 1.5 hours).

Afternoon: Setting up tents and arranging fishing equipment (rods, reels, and lures/poppers)

Evening (First Fishing Period): Test fishing (surfcasting/spinning) from Ras Ersal at sunset to gauge the beach conditions.

Dinner: dinner at the camp and early bedtime.

Day 2: Launching the Sea Fishing (Popping & Jigging)

The Sea Excitement Begins

Morning Period (5:30 – 11:30): Boat departure from Ersal Marina. Target nearby drop-off points using popping techniques to catch aggressive GTs or use vertical jigging for deeper waters.Afternoon: Return to shore, enjoy a fresh lunch, and relax at camp during the lull in the sun andfish.Afternoon (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM): Return to the boat and target rocky channels with the changing tides to catch Spanish Mackerel and Bluefin Trevally using trolling or casting.

Day 3: Focus on the Deep and Open Cape

Hunting the Bottom-Dwelling Monsters .Morning (5:30 AM – 11:30 AM): Venture further out into the open ocean beyond Cape Cape. Use heavy jigging (200-350g weights) to target grouper, amberjack, and yellowfin tuna.Afternoon: Lunch break and line and leader repairs

. Day 4: Rock Fishing

Evening (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM): Recreational trolling near the rocky shores to catch grouper and barracuda.Rock Fishing:Morning (5:30 AM – 11:30 AM): Shore jigging/heavy spinning. This area is a mandatory passage for large fish and requires skill incontrolling the fish before it breaks the line on the rocks.Afternoon: Lunch and relaxation by the fresh waters of Arhar.

Day 5: Montage and Night Fishing

Morning (5:30 AM – 11:30 AM): Popping fishing trip in search of record-breaking GT fish.Afternoon: Grilled fish lunch prepared in the traditional Socotra style.Evening and Night Period (4:00 PM – 9:00 PM): Instead of early evening fishing, bottom fishing extends into the early evening hours, using live bait to catch red bottom fish (snappers) and other species active at night.

Final Sea RoundMorning Period (5:30 AM – 11:30 AM): A final sea fishing trip using speed trolling and castingto target schools of kingfish and tuna passing by Ras Ersal.Evening Period (3:30 PM – 6:30 PM): A relaxing farewell beach fishing session with photos of the catch and the sunset scenery at Ersal.

1. Day Seven: Packing and Departure

Breakfast at the Arhar Camp, disassembling equipments and carefully packing bags.

Transportation by 4×4 vehicle to Socotra Airport for departure. Very Important Tips for a Successful Ras Ersel Fishing Trip:

1. Tool Strength: Ras Ersel fish are very aggressive and strong, surrounded by sharp rocks. You need popping/jigging rods of at least PE 6-8, very strong drag reels (such as large sizes from Shimano or Daiwa), and carbon leader line of at least 100-130 lbs.
2. Baits: Be sure to bring a variety of large poppers (120-200g), sinking and floating

stickbaits, and a set of jigs of varying weights. Ras Ersel currents can be very strong and require heavy weights to reach the bottom.

• Safety: Fishing from the rocks of Ras Ersel requires specialized non-slip shoes (spike shoes) and a light life jacket at all times, whether on the boat or on the high rocks. This program guarantees you more than 35 hours of actual fishing in the water during the week in one of the world’s richest fish-producing areas.
